WAVEX 2.02 • WAVEFORM EXTRACTION
Efficient point cloud extraction from waveform data.
Extract 3D points from raw, full-waveform LiDAR, with more points and more accurate results, even at high altitude and in difficult cases with low vegetation. High throughput from efficient algorithms and an optimized parallel implementation.

Pulse-widening attribute extracted directly from a Riegl SDF raw waveform file. Decoding, MTA resolution, outlier rejection, decomposition, filtering, reordering, georeferencing and LAZ export, all in a single pass.
WHAT IT DOES
More points. Fewer compromises.
WavEx extracts 3D points from raw, full-waveform files, so you get more points and more accurate results even at high altitude and in difficult cases with low vegetation. Decoding, processing and georeferencing happen in a single pass, which keeps throughput high on production volumes.
HOW IT WORKS
A full-waveform processing framework.
Raw binary files are processed to extract a maximum number of peaks robustly, despite noise, sensor artifacts and low vegetation. Outlier filtering rejects high and low points; range and intensity uncertainties are computed from the extracted peak parameters. Automatic MTA assigns the right emitted pulse to each return, even with multiple pulses in the air. Physical parameters such as range and target thickness are estimated with a waveform decomposition that accounts for the system impulse response, for a low false alarm rate and optimal location accuracy.

Example attributes exported by WavEx: range uncertainty, target thickness and corrected intensity, with the reconstructed trajectory above. NERC-ARSF data.
ADVANTAGES
Everything in a single pass.
One optimized pipeline handles decoding, noise rejection, calibration and export, with no extra tools, no manual tuning.

YOUR BENEFITS
Fly higher, keep more information.
Bayesian inference is not just about fuzzy quantities. Proper modeling ensures maximum accuracy compared to ad-hoc approaches, on every waveform you process.
Accuracy improvement
Proper modeling reduces errors and lifts detection rates. Higher detection means you can fly higher and cut collection costs without sacrificing quality.
Full automation
No manual tuning of topography smoothness or outlier frequency, and no more scan-angle cutoffs. Uncertainty propagation weights each point for you.
Uncertainty management
Error structure (e.g. covariances) is preserved, not just propagated, which is essential for downstream shape analysis and change detection. We help you compute it.
